Kids in the Kitchen
Mom, when is dinner ready? If you had a dollar for every time this question is asked, you could hire a chef to make the meals. Children interrupt the cooking process because they want your attention. They tug at your shirtsleeve and ask questions because they’re curious and like being around you. Great, right? I know what you’re thinking. “How can I prepare a meal and show my kids interest?" Here is the answer: let your children help you cook!
Kids of all ages are kitchen friendly. Toddlers bring you spoons, primary schoolers can read recipes, tweens can measure and mix ingredients, and teenagers can cube, cut, slice, dice, grill and bake - the whole shebang.
Inviting your kids to help in the kitchen is an excellent way to connect with them, but the rewards don’t stop there. It’s also a great way to school your kids on nutrition, encourage them to try new foods, and help them become self-sufficient. Show your children that you trust them to dice the carrots, mix the batter, or add the pepper. Teamwork will get dinner ready faster, and your children’s confidence will grow.
